In 2018 the Janáček Hukvaldy International Music Festival merged with another major festival, Janáček May, to form the Leoš Janáček International Music Festival.
The new festival connects Ostrava and Hukvaldy, the birthplace of Leoš Janáček and where he died. It offers concerts in selected cities and municipalities of the Moravian-Silesian Region. The Leoš Janáček International Music Festival is the largest music festival in Europe on the theme of Janáček and provides a complementary counterpart to the Janáček-Brno Opera Festival.
